(Malay Aiqi, 25th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Xiao Jianguo attended the "Dragon Boat Festival Food Fair" hosted by the Malay Aiqi Fuzhou Association and delivered a speech. He warmly congratulated the successful hosting of the event and paid high tribute to the Brunei Chinese community for their long-term dedication to the inheritance of Chinese culture.

Ambassador Xiao Jianguo pointed out that the Dragon Boat Festival is one of the four major traditional festivals of the Chinese nation, carrying profound cultural connotations and national sentiment. The origins of the Dragon Boat Festival are varied, with the most well-known being in commemoration of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Traditional customs such as dragon boat racing, making Zongzi, hanging mugwort, and wearing sachets embody the Chinese nation's respect for loyalty and justice and showcase the unique charm and strong vitality of Chinese culture.

He emphasized that this food festival not only allows everyone to feel the joy of the festival through the fragrance of Zongzi but also fully demonstrates the traditional virtues of the Chinese people, such as "helping those in need and being charitable." All the funds raised from the event will be used for public welfare, reflecting the Brunei Chinese community's sense of social responsibility and spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance.

Ambassador Xiao stated that the friendship between China and Brunei has a long history. In recent years, under the personal care and promotion of the heads of state of the two countries, practical cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen, and cultural exchanges have been expanding. Not long ago, the Sultan successfully conducted a state visit to China, the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs concluded successfully, and the two countries are working toward building a bilateral community with a shared future. Brunei's Chinese associations, as an important bridge for Sino-Brunei friendship and active promoters of cultural exchange, have played a significant role in fostering mutual understanding and affection between the peoples of both nations. He hopes that everyone will continue to uphold the fine tradition of unity and cooperation, carry out diverse cultural activities, and further promote Sino-Brunei cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections to make new and greater contributions to constructing a community with a shared future between China and Brunei.

Finally, Ambassador Xiao Jianguo wished the event a complete success and extended festive greetings to the vast number of Chinese friends, wishing everyone a peaceful Dragon Boat Festival, family happiness, and all the best.
