(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) Regarding the erroneous report on the inauguration of the new national Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Khalid, Sin Chew Daily has admitted that this was caused by the use of an outdated design template. The staff involved has been suspended pending investigation, and the company has launched an internal probe to determine if there was any element of deliberate sabotage.
The newspaper issued a statement on Sunday (22nd) pointing out that the mistake was committed by a staff member responsible for social media, who reused the template design for Tan Sri Johari, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, which led to the error.
"We sincerely apologize to the new Inspector-General of Police (Khalid), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the public for this oversight."
Sin Chew Daily had previously published a personal profile of Khalid, stating that he had served as a PKR central committee member, Kedah state chairman, and an UMNO Sungai Petani division committee member, which caused public confusion.
For this reason, the newspaper lodged a police report last Saturday (21st) to allow the police to investigate if necessary.
The newspaper stated that an internal investigation had been launched to determine whether there was any element of deliberate sabotage in this incident. As a precautionary measure, the staff and supervisor responsible for the infographic have been suspended pending the results of the investigation.
"Sin Chew Daily takes this matter very seriously and promises to strengthen editorial procedures and quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and credibility of the content provided to the public."
Regarding this matter, Datuk Kamarulzaman, Secretary of the Royal Malaysia Police, said in a statement on Sunday that the police take the recent report published by Sin Chew Daily seriously.
The police emphasized that Khalid has never been a member of any political party as stated in the report, nor has he held any such positions.
