(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) As the war between Iran and Israel intensifies, 17 Malaysian citizens have successfully evacuated from Iran and safely returned home after a long journey of over 1,000 kilometers!
Besides the 17 Malaysians, the evacuees also included 6 Iranian citizens who are relatives of the Malaysian nationals, as well as 1 Singaporean citizen, making a total of 24 people.
It's so good to be home. Malaysians who made the long journey back from Iran are joyfully reunited with their families who have been waiting for a long time.
The evacuees first arrived in Bangkok, then took flight MH781 back to Malaysia, successfully arriving safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 at 11:30 pm on Sunday (22nd), where they were personally received by Datuk Ahmad Rozian, Deputy Secretary General responsible for bilateral relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
No matter how tough, we still made it back.
Malaysia's ambassador to Iran, Khairi Omar, who led the return, told the media that local safety concerns were rising and the evacuation was full of challenges, but it was successful in the end.
“We chose a route away from the western frontlines, leaving Tehran by road heading east.”
Returned home safely, tears of joy.
“It was a long journey, spending over 24 hours on the road and we had to spend a night at the border.”
The evacuation coordinated by the Malaysian embassy in Tehran was arduous, crossing more than 1,000 kilometers of Iran and finally reaching the Turkmenistan border.
“We thank the Turkmenistan government for their close cooperation, allowing us entry and direct transfer at Ashgabat International Airport.”
Khairi Omar revealed that there are still 12 Malaysians remaining in Iran, all currently safe and sound.
With the last batch of evacuees now safe, Khairi Omar estimated that there are still 12 Malaysian citizens in Iran, including students and expatriates married to Iranians.
Ahmad Rozian (right 2) welcomes Khairi Omar (left 2) and others back at the airport.
At the same time, he confirmed that all Malaysian expatriates have been located and are all currently safe.
“We are doing everything we can to track their whereabouts, but some have left their original residences for security reasons; nevertheless, we continue to keep in touch as much as possible.”
