Trump Extends TikTok 'Sell or Ban' Deadline for the 3rd Time by 90 Days

The White House announced on the 17th that President Trump has decided to extend the deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest from the short video app TikTok's U.S. assets by another 90 days.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh Levitt said in a statement: "President Trump will sign an additional executive order this week to allow TikTok to continue operations."

She stated: "As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to disappear."

Since taking office in January, Trump has twice approved delaying the enforcement of the Congressional mandate for TikTok's ban. The original deadline for TikTok's 'sell or ban' grace period was set to end on June 19th.

In April last year, the U.S. Senate passed a bill requiring TikTok's parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok to a non-Chinese entity within 270 days, or face a comprehensive ban in the United States. The ban was originally set to take effect in January this year.

TikTok has over 100 million users in the United States.
