Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned on the 17th that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei might meet a fate "similar" to that of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
In a statement released by Gallant's office, it was noted that during a meeting with military and security commanders, Gallant warned that Khamenei could face "a fate similar to Hussein's."
Gallant said, “I warn the Iranian dictator not to commit further war crimes by launching missiles at Israeli civilians. He should remember the outcome faced by the dictators of Iran's neighboring countries who chose the same anti-Israel path."
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's regime launched missiles at Israel during the 1991 Gulf War and was accused of secretly developing nuclear weapons. In 2003, the U.S.-led coalition attacked Iraq, and Hussein was subsequently captured and executed in 2006.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently stated that assassinating Khamenei would potentially bring an end to the conflict between the two nations.
