(Pyongyang, 11th) Kim Yo-jong, younger sister of North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un and Vice Department Director of the Workers’ Party Central Committee, has urged South Korea to conduct a detailed investigation into the recent drone incident.

AFP, quoting KCNA, reported that on Sunday (January 11), Kim Yo-jong expressed her personal appreciation for Seoul’s official statement that it had "no intention of provocation," calling it a wise decision, but also warned that any acts of provocation would lead to a "dire situation."

She said: “It is clear that drones from South Korea have violated North Korean airspace. Regardless of who the perpetrator is, and whether the act was committed by any civilian organization or individual, the authorities responsible for national security absolutely cannot escape responsibility.

Kim Yo-jong emphasized that the video footage recorded by the drones includes uranium mines and settling ponds, the former Kaesong Industrial Complex, North Korean border guard posts, etc.; South Korean authorities 'cannot evade related responsibility.'

On Saturday (10th), KCNA reported that a spokesperson for the General Staff Department of the Korean People's Army issued a statement on Friday (9th), saying that after the October 2024 drone incursion incident in Pyongyang airspace, South Korea once again launched drones violating North Korean airspace at the beginning of this year, committing another serious provocation. According to this statement, the latest drone incident occurred on January 4th.
Yonhap News Agency reported that the South Korean Ministry of National Defense has confirmed that the South Korean military did not use drones. Defense Minister Shin Won-sik stated that the drone shown in North Korea’s released photos is not a model held by the South Korean military.

Regarding the possibility that a civilian drone may have entered North Korea, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung instructed a joint military-police investigation team to carry out a strict investigation, and said that if this is found to be true, it would constitute a serious crime.
