(Matu, 11th) Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman Affairs), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, stated that the “Matu Carnival” (Pesta Matu) is not just an entertainment event for the people, but also an important platform to strengthen community unity and promote a healthy lifestyle, especially having a positive impact among the youth.
He said that the carnival embodies the spirit of close cooperation between the people of Matu and the government, working together to implement various social and community development programs.
“This carnival holds significant and far-reaching meaning. It aims to set a healthy lifestyle example for youth and provides a space for leisure and family activities, further enhancing emotional bonds among community members,” he said.
Also serving as Jemoreng Assemblyman, Juanda made these remarks while officiating the closing ceremony of the “2025 Matu Carnival” at the Matu-Daro District Council (MDMD) Community Hall on Sunday.
He added that this annual event is also an important platform to promote government agency services, as well as to showcase the unique cultural features and talents of the local community.
The carnival featured a variety of activities, including a darts competition, pétanque, a mini regatta, “Matu Idol” singing competition, pumpkin cooking competition, blood donation drive, and a “Parent-child Duo” coloring contest.
“In addition, the participation of community and local entrepreneur booths added a lively atmosphere to this year’s carnival,” he said.
Juanda also expressed his delight and pride at the enthusiastic participation of people from different ethnic groups and age groups.
“This is exactly the spirit of unity and family we hope to continue nurturing in the Matu area,” he stated.
