The Royal Thai Army’s 2nd Region, which administers areas along part of the border with Cambodia, announced on social media on the 25th that conflicts are occurring in multiple border areas and urged the public to avoid approaching the border regions.
Local officials in Surin Province reported that the sound of artillery was heard on the morning of the 25th.
The day before, Thailand launched airstrikes against Cambodian military targets, while Cambodia fired rockets and artillery shells into Thailand.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
Cambodia and Thailand are accusing each other of violating international law.
According to AFP, citing diplomatic sources, the Security Council is convening the closed-door meeting at the request of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The meeting is scheduled for the afternoon of the 25th, U.S. Eastern Time.
On the 24th, UN Secretary-General Guterres’ deputy spokesman Haq expressed that Guterres is concerned about the reports of armed clashes between Cambodia and Thailand in their border regions. He called on both sides to exercise maximum restraint.
