At the request of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar, the House of Representatives will hold a special meeting on May 5 to discuss the impact of US actions on the Malaysian economy and seek countermeasures.

A parliamentary statement said that this special meeting is convened under Article 11(3) of the House Rules to discuss urgent and people-centric issues.

The relevant minister will, pursuant to Article 14(1)(i) of the House Rules, clarify the US action of imposing reciprocal tariffs on all Malaysian import products, its impact on the Malaysian economy, and the responses from various government departments and sectors.

This includes coordinating short-term and medium-term solutions, reviewing policies in specific sectors, and undertaking long-term planning to address the impact of international trade wars on the national economy.

“The Speaker of the House has also allowed Members of Parliament to request explanations and offer opinions during the briefing session.”

The statement said the meeting will also provide space for constructive debate and offer transparent information to the public on government measures to address current global economic challenges.

The special parliamentary meeting will begin at 11 a.m. on that day and will be broadcast live through the official channel of the parliament's YouTube.
