Minister of Home Affairs Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution announced that the department will provide 600 body cameras to Immigration Department officers to address the integrity issues within the Immigration Department.
He stated that the procurement process will begin on the 28th of this month, and the cameras will be distributed to Immigration Department officers as soon as possible.
Speaking at the Home Ministry's Eid celebration today (24th), he said that Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar is very concerned about the integrity issues within the Immigration Department and personally called the Director-General of the Immigration Department.
“At that time, the director-general, who was initially seated, immediately stood up upon receiving the Prime Minister's call. The Prime Minister requested that officers be equipped with body cameras, and I also requested the secretary-general to expedite the procurement process.”
He mentioned that during his leadership of the Home Ministry, he often received messages of concern from the Prime Minister, such as the crowd at immigration checkpoints.
“If everything goes smoothly, most of the international airports in the country will install automated clearance gates by June, replacing manual operations to ease the crowd at the checkpoints.”
Prime Minister Anwar was also invited to attend this Eid celebration organized by the Home Ministry, where the rock queen of the Malay music scene, Ella, performed songs, creating a climax.
On another note, when later asked about the extension of the China-Malaysia visa liberalization plan by five years and the implementation of a 90-day visa-free entry, Saifuddin stated that he will announce the implementation date.
