KUCHING, Sept 3: A warehouse at Jalan Pateri in Bintawa Industrial Estate here was completely destroyed after a fire broke out early this morning, but no casualties were reported.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the emergency call was received at 5.40am, and fire engines from Tabuan Jaya, Padungan, and Batu Lintang fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene, located about 6km from the nearest station.
Upon arrival at 5.47am, the operation commander PBK II Tahir Tuah reported that the non-permanent structure warehouse, measuring 150 by 120 square feet, was already 100 per cent engulfed in flames.

Firefighters deployed multiple water streams from hydrants, with Padungan station stretching two hose lines and Tabuan Jaya deploying four nozzles with 200 feet of hose.

Due to the intensity of the blaze, the firefighting team adopted a ‘defensive’ strategy as the warehouse structure, already collapsing and covered with zinc sheets, posed high risks.

By 6.20am, the fire was brought under control, with further extinguishing carried out using an aerial ladder platform (ALP) from above the premises.

A total of 20 firefighters were involved in the operation, supported by two fire rescue tenders (FRT), one emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit, one tanker, and one ALP.

Senior officers present at the scene included Sarawak Bomba deputy director PPjB Tiong Ling Hii, Tabuan Jaya fire chief TPgB II Ts Mohamad Meramit, Zone operations officer PKPgB Azaharul Sahari, and PGO officer PgB Hadwart John Rarandis.

Also involved in the operation were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the police (PDRM), and the Civil Defence Force (APM).

The fire was fully contained by 7.50am, and investigations into the cause of the blaze are underway.
