(Miri, 7th)—Miri Mayor and Pujut Constituency State Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang stated that singing is an art form that transcends age, profession, and background. A good song can not only convey emotions and inspire, but also bring people closer together. Organizing singing competitions is not just about choosing winners, but more importantly, about providing a platform for music lovers to showcase their talents, learn from each other, and exchange ideas.
He expressed these thoughts last night while officiating at the opening of the “2026 Flying Cranes in the Sky Veterans and New Talents Elite Male and Female Singing Competition” hosted by the Fitness Group and Zhonghua Hexiangzhuang Qigong under the Miri Moral Uplifting Society Zi Xing Pavilion. As Adam Yii was unable to attend due to urgent official matters, Miri City Council Tourism Development Working Committee Chairman and City Councillor Kelvin Phoon represented him and read out the prepared speech.
In his speech, Adam Yii first extended his apologies, noting that he had looked forward to personally attending and joining everyone for this event filled with singing and joy, but was unable to be present due to official duties. He specially entrusted his representative to deliver his speech and conveyed his sincere greetings to the organizers and all attendees.
He said this year’s competition attracted 60 singers from Miri to register, demonstrating the public’s love for the art of singing and also highlighting the vibrant development of local cultural activities, which is truly encouraging.
He also highly praised the efforts of the Zhonghua Hexiangzhuang Qigong organizing unit over the years, who have not only actively promoted healthy exercise and encouraged the public to strengthen their bodies, but have also consistently organized various beneficial cultural activities. These efforts inject positive energy into society, enrich the spiritual lives of citizens, and promote exchanges and connections within the community.
At the same time, he thanked all participants for their enthusiastic involvement, stating that standing on stage takes courage, and having the confidence and passion to sing in front of an audience is truly admirable.
