Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt recently broke his silence in a rare move during a podcast interview, discussing his nearly decade-long divorce turmoil with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. He admitted that period almost 'brought him to his knees,' and it was during this low point that he chose to join Alcoholics Anonymous, regaining his life’s focus.
Pitt and Jolie announced their separation in 2016, and their marriage was officially ended at the end of 2024. During this time, Jolie accused Pitt of domestic violence in court documents, including an incident on a flight to France where she alleged he assaulted her and one of their children. Although Pitt denied the allegations and the FBI did not bring charges against him, the incident continued to impact both their relationship and public images.
In the interview, Pitt recalled: “At that time I was almost on my knees, completely open, and I would try anything people suggested.” He admitted he “needed a reboot” and bluntly stated: “I needed to get my damn act together.” He explained that the openness and honesty of the meetings gave him a rare sense of release and support: “It gave me a sort of permission to take that step forward and see what would happen. And as it turned out, I actually began to love the process.”
However, Pitt also admitted that after he shared this experience in a 2019 interview with The New York Times, he was reminded by AA members that “it’s anonymous.” At the time, he spoke about his early recovery: “It was a men’s group, AA, where everyone shared their stories, flaws, mistakes, cravings, pain, and there was a lot of humor. For someone like me, who’s used to only sharing good news and not the bad, it was truly special.” Although he was mildly criticized within AA for sharing about the group, Pitt emphasized the profound significance of this experience in his transformation and healing, calling it a key step that helped him move past the collapse of his marriage and his life’s confusion.
