Miri Handicraft Festival Grandly Opens, Strengthening Its Role as a Ulu Cultural Creative Hub

(Miri, 11th) The 2025 Miri Handicraft Festival officially opened on Wednesday (10th), with Miri continuing to strengthen its position as an important center for Ulu handicrafts and creative arts. The event presents a diverse range of programs, blending traditional culture, innovative elements, and regional cooperation.
The opening ceremony was held at the Forum Cultural Centre Miri, officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato' Sebastian Ting, who represented Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, Dato' Sebastian Ting stated that such festivals not only highlight the talents of local artisans, but also open up new economic opportunities through culture and the arts.

He said: "The annual handicraft festival not only strengthens Sarawak's cultural identity, but also showcases Sarawak's cultural strength on domestic and international platforms, complementing the government's efforts to promote the creative industry."
This handicraft festival is organized by the Sarawak Handicraft Council and co-participated by multiple government agencies and community organizations, and will be held from December 10th to 14th.
In addition, regional representatives are once again participating in the blowpipe competition, indicating that the festival has become an important stage for cultural exchange and traditional sports.
Attendees included Miri Division Administrative Officer Galong Luang, Sarawak Handicraft Council Chief Executive Officer Suriya Charles Buas, and the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation Sarawak Branch Director Mohd Tuan Fu’ad Ariffin, among others.
