(Miri, 19th) A house in Kampung Senadin narrowly escaped being engulfed by flames yesterday evening, after an electrical wire and appliances in the kitchen caught fire.
A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operation Center (PGO) said the incident was reported at around 6:28 pm, and a team from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Lutong) was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The team, comprising four personnel and a fire engine, arrived at the scene at 6:50 pm.
“Upon inspection, it was found that the source of the fire was from the kitchen inside the house, involving a short circuit in the electrical wiring and some electrical equipment,” the spokesperson noted in a statement today.
It is estimated the fire damaged about 15% of the house’s structure.
“Since the fire had extinguished itself before the firefighters arrived, no firefighting operations were carried out. However, the firefighters conducted a further investigation to determine the actual cause,” he added.
It is understood that the homeowner had been away for two days at the time of the incident. The fire team subsequently set up a safety cordon in the affected kitchen area and carried out an on-site inspection.
“After confirming the site was safe and the situation under control, the team ended the operation and returned to the station at 7:08 pm,” the spokesperson said.
