(Kuching, 19th) Upon completion of the “Redline Project,” Sarawak’s main roadways covering a total length of 136.74 kilometers will be upgraded to four-lane, dual carriageways (in accordance with the Public Works Department JKR R5 standard), aiming to enhance safety, comfort, and traffic efficiency.
The Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated in a Facebook post today that he recently inspected the progress of works at the Tudan section in Miri, Sarawak. This road section spans 9.7 kilometers and is estimated to cost RM86 million.
He said, “The scope of works includes upgrading and strengthening the existing 9.7 kilometers of federal road to U5 standard, laying reflective raised pavement markers (RRPM), building a drainage system, installing road-related facilities, and implementing road safety improvements.”
However, he added that the upgrading work for this section is still pending official approval from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Works (KKR).
The “Redline Project” is an initiative by the government to upgrade existing stretches along the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak that were not included in Phase 1 of the plan.
This project is divided into two main segments:
· Redline Short Stretch: 17.1 kilometers in total, covering 9 sections including Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew, and Tudan;
· Redline Long Stretch: 119.64 kilometers in total, involving the Durin and Salim, Kemena, Tudan, Batu Kawa, and Padawan sections.
