Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar pointed out that Russian President Putin is confirmed not to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit.
He stated this when asked at the ASEAN Briefing for Media Executives on Wednesday night, regarding whether Putin will be attending the ASEAN summit to be held next week.
He said this time Russia will be represented by its Deputy Prime Minister.
“He (Putin) is considering attending future (ASEAN Summits). This year, the Vice President will represent Russia.”
Additionally, Anwar stated that Myanmar’s Acting Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing will also not attend this summit.
Nevertheless, he reiterated that ASEAN still insists on adhering to the Five-Point Consensus regarding Myanmar's political crisis.
On the other hand, Anwar also stated that Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will attend the ASEAN Summit for the first time.
He praised Japan’s proactive support for Gaza's reconstruction efforts and hopes that during Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Malaysia, there can be further discussions on Gaza’s reconstruction.
