Taiwan High-Voltage Power Tower Incident: Man Found Hanging from Power Cable at 20-Story Height

Published at Aug 07, 2025 11:15 am
An unusual and shocking incident was reported on June 6th in Guishan District, Taoyuan, Taiwan: a man was discovered hanging from a power cable about 60 meters off the ground—equivalent to the height of a 20-story building—with no signs of breathing or heartbeat.

Due to the remote location, weather conditions, and safety considerations, firefighters and Taipower personnel decided that rescue operations—including power shutdown and recovery of the body—could only proceed on the morning of the 7th. The identity of the deceased remains unknown and the cause of death is a mystery; police are working on identification and forensic investigation at the scene to unravel the circumstances behind this bizarre event.

Police and rescue workers slowly made their way up the mountain and, gazing into the distance, found someone hanging from the cables of the high-voltage power tower. Preliminary assessments by firefighters indicated that the man hanging on the cable showed no signs of life, and the location was at least 60 meters above the ground, about the height of a 20-story building. With dusk approaching, retrieving the body was expected to be a major operation.

Local residents reported seeing officers from the Guishan Police Precinct and the fire brigade entering the scene. After inquiries, they learned that an incident had occurred nearby. Rescuers used binoculars to zoom in for a closer look and confirmed it was a person. Residents further explained that access to the site was limited: cars could not get through, only motorcycles could maneuver the trails, and getting closer required travel on foot.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on the 6th, behind the Longshou Industrial Zone’s high-voltage power tower in Guishan, Taoyuan. A member of the public discovered a man hanging in a suspicious manner from a power cable. An initial check by Taipower confirmed that the deceased was not a Taipower employee.

Taipower stated that personnel would arrive at the site at 5:30 am on the 7th to handle the situation, as they must cut off the power before any subsequent work could proceed. Taking into account weather conditions and operational safety, firefighters planned to begin the rescue at 6 am on the 7th, in conjunction with the power shutdown managed by Taipower staff.

This bizarre power tower case has raised many questions: who was the deceased? How did he get up the high-voltage tower? Was he placed there by someone else? Investigators will need to identify the body and expand the scope of evidence collection in order to solve this mystery.
