A spokesperson for the Ghanaian government said on the 6th that a military helicopter from Ghana crashed that day in the Ashanti region in the south-central part of the country. All 8 people on board were killed, including 2 ministers.
The spokesperson said that the helicopter took off from the Ghanaian capital Accra at 9:12 a.m. local time and crashed in the Ashanti region. All 5 government officials and 3 crew members on board were killed, including Defense Minister Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Mohammed.
The Ghana Armed Forces stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident to determine the cause of the Z9 helicopter crash.
According to Ghanaian media reports, the helicopter was en route to attend an event concerning illegal mining. Illegal mining is a major environmental issue faced by Ghana.
