(Kuala Lumpur, 10th) DAP Socialist Youth National Chief Ng Ka Leong strongly condemns UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Akmal's call for the public to “visit” a shop in Kepala Batas, Seberang Perai Utara, allegedly involved in displaying the national flag upside down. Ng stated that this not only makes it seem like Akmal wants to appoint himself as an enforcer, but is also an act that disregards the rule of law and carries an element of intimidation.
Ng Ka Leong criticized Akmal’s hypocrisy and double standards regarding the national flag issue. He questioned, “Has Akmal ever mobilized crowds to ‘visit’ the Ministry of Education or the Terengganu PAS headquarters when the wrong national flag was displayed there? The answer is obviously no, which exactly exposes Akmal’s pretentious hypocrisy.”
He emphasized that Malaysia is a country based on constitution and rule of law. Any illegal or noncompliant acts, including hanging the national flag upside down, must be dealt with according to existing laws and procedures—not through intimidation or “street trials.” Patriotism cannot be built on threats, but must be cultivated through continuous and effective education.
He stated in a press release that violators should be punished according to the law, but intentionally sensationalizing incidents and mobilizing crowds to “teach others a lesson” is nothing more than creating political stunts, which bring no benefit to national unity. As elected representatives, efforts should be made to unite the people, not create tension and conflict.
Ng Ka Leong reaffirmed that the mistake of displaying the national flag upside down should be handled according to the law, but the real disturbance to public order at present comes from politicians like Akmal who constantly provoke controversy and politicize incidents for personal gain. “Malaysia does not need morality police or street bullies, but needs leaders who prioritize peace, harmony, and the rule of law.”
He called on all parties, especially Akmal—who repeatedly undermines the unity of Malaysia’s diverse society—to immediately stop this confrontational political culture that only breeds hatred and division. Only through dialogue, continuous education, and everyone’s adherence to the rule of law can the country continue to progress.
