French Couple Have Sex on Tuk-tuk — Deported and Blacklisted by Thailand

A French couple caused a stir in Phuket when they engaged in public sex on a 'tuk-tuk' despite being in full view of others! Thai police immediately launched an investigation, successfully arrested the two, and fined them. The Thai immigration bureau has revoked their visas, deported them, and placed them on a blacklist.

The incident happened on January 29th, on Patong Hill Road in Phuket. A driver following behind the tuk-tuk spotted the two foreign lovers' outrageous behavior inside the vehicle — not only undressing but actually engaging in sexual activity. The process was filmed and uploaded to social media, sparking outrage among Thai netizens, who condemned their challenge to the boundaries of Thai law and denounced them for seriously disrespecting Thai culture and damaging Phuket’s international reputation.

After receiving a report, the Kathu Police Station in Phuket quickly launched an investigation and, on Monday (the 2nd), arrested the pair at a hotel in the Thalang district. The two suspects were confirmed to be French nationals: a man named Wesley and a woman named Valen.

The male suspect being arrested and fined by Thai police, and will be deported.
Thai police charged the pair under Article 388 of the Criminal Code (committing indecent exposure or lewd acts in public places). Under this provision, violators may be fined up to 5,000 baht (about 625 ringgit).

Although the couple have paid the fine, because their conduct significantly damaged Phuket’s reputation as a world-renowned family tourism destination, the immigration bureau subsequently approved the revocation of their stay visas, placed them on the blacklist, and arranged their deportation.

It is worth noting that in the past, similar incidents involving foreigners typically ended with only a fine. However, this time Thai authorities took much tougher measures, which is seen as a stern warning to foreign tourists to respect local customs and laws when traveling in Thailand.

In December last year, a Russian couple was also caught engaging in similar behavior at Pattaya's Jomtien Beach. They were only fined at the time and did not face visa revocation or blacklisting. The harsher penalties this time highlight the authorities’ determination to restore order in tourism.
