Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that on the 26th, he held a one-on-one meeting with US President Trump on the sidelines of Pope Francis' funeral, discussing a possible unconditional ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

An AFP journalist reported that Trump had a brief meeting with Zelensky earlier at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican during Pope Francis' funeral, after which Trump had departed Rome.

Zelensky posted on the social media platform X, stating that he and Trump discussed many matters one-on-one. He hopes that everything they discussed will yield results, including protecting the lives of their people, a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire, and lasting peace that reliably prevents the outbreak of another war.

Zelensky also stated that it was a "very symbolic meeting, potentially historic (meeting), if we achieve the results both parties want."

This was the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Zelensky since their serious dispute at the White House on February 28.

White House Communications Director Zhang Zhenxi stated that this meeting may have been "fruitful."
