The report shows that, as of now, China has a total of 102 nuclear power units in operation, under construction, and approved for construction, with an installed capacity reaching 113 million kilowatts, making it the first time that China's overall nuclear power scale surpasses the world.

Currently, China has 28 nuclear power units under construction, with a total installed capacity of 33.65 million kilowatts. The capacity of units under construction has maintained the world’s largest for 18 consecutive years. China has 58 commercial nuclear power units in operation, with a total installed capacity of 60.96 million kilowatts.

CCTV News reports that on the 27th, the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association released the "China Nuclear Energy Development Report 2025" blue book, revealing the above data.

Cao Shudong, Executive Vice President of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association, stated that in 2024, China will approve 5 nuclear power projects, including the first phase of the Jiangsu Xuwei project, the first phase of the Guangdong Lufeng project, the first phase of the Shandong Zhaoyuan project, and others, totaling 11 units. China has approved 10 or more nuclear power units for three consecutive years.

In addition, China's nuclear power generation continues to grow. In 2024, the cumulative power generation of nuclear power units nationwide will reach 444.7 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 4.72% of the national power generation, ranking second globally, equivalent to reducing the burning of 127 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 334 million tons.

Not only is the nuclear power scale continuing to expand, but the independent innovation capability of China's nuclear power technology has also significantly enhanced. In 2024, 100% localization of key nuclear main equipment and independent controllability of key components technology were achieved. Throughout the year, a total of 114 sets of domestic nuclear main equipment were delivered, ensuring the normal operation of units such as Hualong One, Guohe series, and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.
