Cambodian Scam Zones Trigger Black Alert in South Korea; More Controversy as Seungri Says He’ll Bring GD Along

Recently, incidents of South Korean university students being kidnapped, tortured, and killed in Cambodia have become frequent, turning the so-called “Cambodia Shock” into a reality in South Korea. The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an upgraded black alert for certain areas in Cambodia, and airlines and travel agencies are facing a dramatic increase in flight suspensions and cancellations.

Now, netizens have dug up comments made by former BIG BANG member Seungri at a Cambodian nightclub, where he declared, “I’ll bring GD (G-Dragon) along,” drawing attention. It was further discovered that he has a past criminal record and ties to nightclub operations, sparking suspicions of close interactions with tycoons from Cambodia’s scam park sector.

According to data from the Korean National Police Agency, from last year until October 13 of this year, Korea has reported 143 people suspected of being missing or detained in relation to Cambodia, with 52 still under investigation (91 confirmed). This number does not include unreported cases, so the actual total may be much higher.

The most shocking of these incidents is the case of Korean university student Park (22), who was kidnapped, tortured, and killed. He disappeared after traveling to Cambodia in August to attend an exhibition, and was later found dead near Bokor Mountain in Kampot Province.

Korean celebrity Seungri, who previously exited the entertainment industry after being convicted in the Burning Sun nightclub case, was released from prison in February 2023. Comments he made at a Cambodian nightclub event in January last year have now surfaced. At that event, he loudly declared, “Cambodia isn't dangerous at all! It's the best country in Asia!” and repeatedly mentioned G-DRAGON, stating, “I’ll bring GD along.” This caused dissatisfaction among fans at the time, and with the footage resurfacing, sharp-eyed netizens noticed the stage backdrop displayed the “Prince Brewing” logo, a brand under Prince Holding Group, leading to suspicions that he was already connected to local top-level figures.
