Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar stated that the South China Sea issue is indeed a long-standing problem, but he does not believe it should be regarded as the main issue.
He said that there are indeed sovereignty disputes between ASEAN and China, but everyone will negotiate while ensuring peace.
"Malaysia is a maritime nation, and basically has issues with every country in the region, but we have never gone to war with these countries, instead we continue to negotiate."
He said that our country has a good relationship with China, so he does not think these disputes should be exaggerated, but rather that good solutions should be found through negotiation.
Anwar made these remarks during a briefing with media chiefs on Wednesday night regarding the ASEAN Summit.
