A man in the UK woke up one morning to find his entire body had turned blue, looking just like an alien from the movie "Avatar." Terrified, he snapped a photo and sent it to his mother, and then rushed to the emergency room with a friend for treatment, only to discover that sleeping naked was the culprit.
According to The Sun, 42-year-old Tommy Lynch said that the morning it happened he felt extremely tired upon waking up. When he looked down, he found his hands and many parts of his body had turned blue. Lynch joked that he "looked just like a character from Avatar." He tried desperately to scrub his hands with soap, but the color wouldn't come off, and interestingly, the soap bubbles didn't turn blue either, which made him even more confused.
After sending a photo to his mother, she became worried that he might have circulation problems or a lack of oxygen, so with a friend, Lynch went to the emergency room. When the medical staff saw the color of his face, they decided to give him oxygen treatment right away.
However, a nurse wiped Lynch's arm with a wet wipe, and the tissue instantly turned blue. That was when everyone realized that Lynch’s "blue face" wasn't due to a medical condition at all, but simply because he’d been stained.
It turned out that Lynch has vitiligo, a condition where patches of his skin are lighter and thus more easily dyed by pigments. The night before, he had just changed into a new set of bedsheets gifted by a friend, and since he put them on without washing and usually sleeps naked, after a whole night his body was dyed blue by the sheets.
Lynch said that as he left, his face turned red (referring to feeling embarrassed). He then spent the following week soaking in baths and scrubbing his body every day before finally managing to wash off the dye.
