Kuching to host international seminar on humanity and climate change crisis

KUCHING: An international seminar on ‘Humanity and Climate Change Crisis: A Multidimensional Perspective’ will be held on Jul 29 and 30.

The seminar is being held in conjunction with the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) 70th anniversary celebration.

To be held at Dewan Kompleks Islam here, it is organised by SIC, in collaboration with the Institute of Islamic Undertanding Malaysia (IKIM) and the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty).

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agency, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi confirmed that the seminar will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Abang Johari will deliver a keynote address titled ‘Balancing Development Needs and Environmental Concerns: Sarawak Experience and The Way Forward’.

“The two day seminar will bring together policymakers, scientists, scholar, and thought leaders to deliberate on the himan dimensions of climates, which is an issues often overlooked but crucial aspect in addressing global environmental changes,” he said.

Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman said this in a press conference on the upcoming event at Majma Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah today.

Abdul Rahman added that the seminar aims to deepen the understanding of the human environment interaction in the climate change discourse, explore ethical and spiritual perspective rooted in Islamic teachings to guide sustainable responses and to develop actionable strategies grounded in equity, inclusion and community resilience.

“We expect a total of 500 participants from Peninsular Malaysia and countries such as Australia and China will be attending the two-day seminar.

“The seminar will also feature high-level dialogues on ethics, with particular emphasis on Islamic perspective, alongside discussions on green technology and environmental.
