(Malacca, 24th) There are viral online rumors that a 12-year-old primary school student almost got kidnapped by a masked man driving a white van while cycling home.
Christopher, Assistant Commissioner and Chief of the Central Malacca District Police, issued a statement confirming that the police received the related report, stating that the incident occurred on August 15 in Kampung Paya Ikan.
"However, the incident did not happen at the school as suggested by social media, but rather occurred while the victim was cycling home from a shop."
He said that so far, the investigation has not found any attempt of abduction, and those in the vehicle did not communicate with the student.
He advised the public not to make any speculations that could cause unnecessary public concern, especially among parents.
Nevertheless, he said parents should always ensure the safety of their children to avoid any unnecessary incidents.
Previously, an incident of a masked man driving a white van allegedly attempting to abduct a primary school student was widely circulated on social media and WhatsApp.
According to reports, the boy managed to escape and lodged a police report after informing his parents.
