(Kuala Belait, 29th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Xiao Jianguo, recently attended the 86th Anniversary Celebration and Elderly Appreciation Dinner of the Kuala Belait Hainan Association. In his speech, he extended his warm congratulations and sincere greetings to all directors and Hainanese compatriots, and praised the association for its longstanding positive contributions to the Chinese community and China-Brunei friendship.
He stated that since its establishment, the Kuala Belait Hainan Association has always adhered to the mission of serving compatriots, unity and mutual assistance, promoting culture, and giving back to society, earnestly safeguarding the unity of the motherland and the national interest. For 86 years, it has remained true to its original aspiration and forged ahead with determination, making important contributions to uniting the Chinese in Kuala Belait, promoting Chinese traditional culture, and advancing Brunei’s economic and social development. It has also provided people-to-people momentum and emotional ties to the development of China-Brunei relations.
Xiao Jianguo revealed that he is about to complete his term and return to China. As he bids farewell and gathers with Hainanese compatriots, he feels both gratified and reluctant to leave. He said that over the past three years, with the support of all sectors of Brunei, especially the Hainan Association and the wider Chinese community, the embassy team worked together to steadily advance China-Brunei relations. High-level exchanges have maintained good momentum, pragmatic cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen, and people-to-people ties have grown closer.
He pointed out that in February this year, the Sultan of Brunei successfully made a state visit to China. President Xi Jinping and the Sultan reached an important consensus on building a Sino-Brunei community of shared destiny, ushering in a new chapter in bilateral relations. These achievements could not have been realized without the support and assistance of the Chinese community. He extended his sincere gratitude to the guests present.
Xiao Jianguo stated that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was successfully convened in October, and adopted the "Proposal of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development." The next five years will be a crucial stage for China to basically achieve socialist modernization. China will accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system, develop new quality productive forces, and adhere to high-quality development and a high level of opening up.
He said that the embassy will actively promote the alignment of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Brunei’s “Vision 2035” strategy, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Brunei, and bring broader development opportunities to the Brunei Chinese community and Chinese compatriots.
He hopes the Hainan Association will continue to carry forward its fine traditions, inherit the past and usher in the future, unite and rally the broad Chinese community in Brunei, especially the younger generation, and make new and greater contributions to building a China-Brunei community of shared destiny and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
