The Tanyong police station in Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, was hit by a car bomb attack on Tuesday (21st) evening, causing severe damage to the surrounding area. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
According to Thai media reports, the incident took place on Tuesday evening at 7:20 PM local time. Preliminary investigation reveals that a suspect drove a car rigged with an improvised explosive device (IED) to the police station.
Upon arrival at the entrance, the suspect stopped the car, pushed it into the police station courtyard, and then jumped onto the back seat of a motorcycle driven by an accomplice to flee the scene. Shortly afterwards, the car exploded.
The blast impact caused varying degrees of damage to multiple areas of the police station building.
After the incident, the police quickly cordoned off the scene and began collecting evidence, while members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team conducted an initial investigation.
According to the Thai newspaper 'Matichon', after the explosion, police, military personnel, and administrative officials have comprehensively strengthened security measures throughout Narathiwat province.
Authorities have increased patrol frequency, inspected high-risk areas, checked suspicious objects, and deployed drones to monitor locations at risk of attack. In addition, security measures in the city area, along border lines, and other sensitive zones have also been further enhanced, aiming to prevent similar attacks from happening again and to reassure local residents.
