(Silongmen, 14th) — What started as a family outing ended in tragedy when a woman lost her life in a car accident near the 19th kilometer of the Silongmen-Lun Lok road, close to Kampung Sepadah. Five other family members were injured.
Silongmen District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Haidi Abdul Rahman stated the accident occurred at about 4:40 pm yesterday, involving a Perodua Bezza car driven by a woman and carrying five family members.
He said preliminary investigations indicated the vehicle might have lost control and skidded, veering onto the left shoulder of the road before crashing into a water pipe belonging to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).
"The impact resulted in all six occupants being injured, and they were sent to Silongmen Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement issued today.
He added that two of the injured were transported to the hospital by ambulances from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Civil Defense Force (APM), while the other four were assisted to the hospital by members of the public at the scene.
However, he revealed that one of the injured, a 61-year-old female passenger, was pronounced dead at 7:33 pm in the Silongmen Hospital emergency room despite resuscitation efforts.
"The remaining five injured, including the driver, are still under treatment at the same hospital and are in stable condition," he said.
Police are currently investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act (reckless or dangerous driving causing death).
He also urged any witnesses or those with information to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
Mohamad Haidi further reminded the public to remain highly alert while driving, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and show courtesy on the roads to ensure their own safety and that of others.
"Careful driving and staying alert to road conditions are key to preventing tragedies and saving lives. Police urge all road users to put safety first and cherish the lives of themselves and their families," he said.
