Attacks on Gulf States: Arab League Slams Iran’s Recklessness

Regarding Iran’s attacks on several Arab League member states in the Persian Gulf, Arab League Secretary General Aboul Gheit on the 8th criticized the attacks as “reckless” and called on the Iranian authorities to reverse this “major strategic mistake.”

The Arab League has 22 member states, covering the Middle East and North Africa. Iran is not among them.

According to AFP, Arab League Secretary General Aboul Gheit, speaking via video at an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, stated that these attacks are unjustifiable “regardless of any excuse or reason.”

Aboul Gheit also said that Arab countries “are not parties to the current war” and have stated they will not allow “their territories or airspace to be used to launch attacks.”

US Orders Evacuation of Embassy Staff in Saudi Arabia

Meanwhile, the US State Department on the 8th ordered embassy staff in Saudi Arabia to evacuate.

Previously, the State Department had authorized the voluntary departure of non-essential US government personnel and their families from Saudi Arabia, but now requires them to leave, only keeping essential personnel in place.

Missile Hits Saudi Arabia Causing 2 Deaths, 12 Injuries

On the 8th, Saudi Arabia reported that a missile struck Al Qassim Province, resulting in 2 deaths and 12 injuries.

Saudi Arabia is the latest country where non-essential US personnel have been ordered to evacuate. Since the outbreak of war with Iran, the State Department has ordered the evacuation of non-essential staff from Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, as well as the US consulates in Lahore and Karachi, Pakistan.

Operations at the US Embassy in Kuwait have also been suspended.
