The Assembly of Experts in Iran issued a statement on the 8th, announcing the nomination of Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This indicates that the hardliners in Tehran remain firmly in power as the conflict with the United States and Israel enters its tenth day.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump commented on Iran’s new leader, stating, “He must have our approval,” and, “If he doesn’t get our recognition, he won’t last long.”
Before this appointment was announced, Israel had declared that anyone who was selected would become a target of attack.
