(Tawau, 14th) A fire broke out at Sri Aman Village on Abas Road in Tawau, Sabah at midnight, destroying 30 water homes.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jemisin stated that authorities received an emergency call at 11:23 p.m. on Saturday (December 13) and immediately dispatched 17 firefighters to the scene, which is about 7 km away. They arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.
“The fire involved houses made of planks and wooden structures, which were 100% destroyed by the fire. To ensure an adequate water supply during the firefighting operation, the rescue team also used rescue trucks, a water tanker truck, and a relay water supply system.”
He said that 6 members each from the Kunak Fire Department and the Kampung Titian Community Fire Team also participated in the firefighting operation. They employed three methods of extinguishing the fire, including using fire hoses from multiple hydrants and using open sea water sources to control the blaze.
He said that there were no casualties, and the rescue team successfully contained the fire’s spread, ending the extinguishing operation at 3:10 a.m. on Sunday.
He added that the cause of the fire and the losses are still under investigation.
