Michael Wong Reveals He Once Turned Down ‘Call Me By Fire’ Because He Couldn't Understand the Show's PPT

Malaysian national treasure singer Michael Wong just completed two successful concerts in Malaysia last Friday and Saturday (July 18th and 19th) as part of his ‘Never Apart. Tonight I’m Not Alone 3.0’ 2025 Kuala Lumpur stop of the tour. At the celebration banquet, not only did he receive an ASEAN Records certification, but he also unexpectedly revealed that he had been invited multiple times to join the Chinese music variety show ‘Call Me By Fire’, but turned it down because he “couldn’t understand the show’s PPT”, causing an outburst of laughter at the scene.

When asked by the media whether he would consider joining ‘Call Me By Fire’, Michael Wong playfully replied, “Do you want me to join? Would you watch it?” Then he joked, “Actually, they approached me in the first season. I looked at their PPT (presentation)...I really couldn’t understand it, so I didn’t go. Later, for the second and third seasons, they also approached me, but the timings didn’t work out. We also had to consider — is this show suitable for me?”

The media urged him to participate, but Wong responded with a laugh, “How could that be possible!” He honestly admitted that he is not good at performing in unfamiliar environments: “To interact naturally with a group of people I don’t know is a bit difficult for me. I’m just not the type who interacts much with others.” His words brought the house down.

When asked if he would consider holding a concert in his hometown of Ipoh, he explained he had planned to do so in earlier years, but was unable to due to technical limitations.

In addition, Michael Wong was also awarded the ASEAN Records certificate at the celebration banquet, commending him for selling out two consecutive concerts with a unified ticket price of RM199, making him an exemplary figure in the regional music scene.

The ASEAN Records announced that Malaysian singer Michael Wong received the certification, achieving a musically historic milestone. “On July 18 and 19, 2025, Michael Wong held two consecutive concerts at Malaysia's iconic Merdeka Stadium, attracting a total of 40,000 audience members. All tickets were sold at a standard price of RM199, regardless of seating, establishing a new model for ‘affordable pricing’ at large-scale events.”

This record also continues his groundbreaking feat from 2018, when Michael Wong became the first ever Malaysian Mandopop singer to perform at Merdeka Stadium; tickets were also uniformly priced at RM99, drawing over 20,000 fans and earning wide acclaim.
