Chinese actor Ding Yuxi shot to fame last year with 'Eternal Night Galaxy'. Recently, while appearing on the reality show 'Chinese Restaurant', he couldn’t help but reveal upon meeting Shen Yue: “I once auditioned for ‘Meteor Garden’.” This surprised Shen Yue, the female lead in the Chinese version of 'Meteor Garden', who responded, “Really?! Which role did you audition for?” He said he couldn’t remember, but back then he still had long hair. Shen Yue guessed he probably tried out for “Meizuo”, but in the end, he wasn’t selected. He narrowly missed the chance to become part of China’s F4, but he expressed that perhaps he might have the opportunity to act alongside Shen Yue someday.
The Chinese version of 'Meteor Garden' was produced by Chai Zhiping, who also produced the Taiwanese version. Shen Yue, who’d just risen to stardom from 'A Love So Beautiful', played 'Shancai', while the then-newcomer Dylan Wang took on the role of ‘Daoming Si’. The roles of ‘Hua Ze Lei’, ‘Meizuo’, and ‘Ximen’ were portrayed by Guan Hong, Liang Jingkang, and Wu Xize, respectively. However, many of the original’s opulent and school bullying scenes were changed, turning this Daoming Si into the poorest version ever, resulting in a much less exciting show. It’s considered the least popular version among the Taiwanese, Japanese, and Korean adaptations of 'Meteor Garden', so Ding Yuxi’s missed opportunity isn’t really something to regret.
