Miri SMK Baru Carnival 2.0 Open to Public for Free This Saturday

(Miri, 5th) — The highly anticipated second Miri SMK Baru Carnival (BARUian Carnival 2.0) will be held grandly this Saturday (8th) from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Miri SMK Baru campus. The event is open to the public for free, and everyone is warmly invited to join.

This carnival is organized by Miri SMK Baru, with support from the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Parent Support Group (KSIB), and the Parent, Community and Private Institution Participation Committee (PIBKS), and is mainly executed by the SMK Baru Cooperative.

The aim of the carnival is to discover and showcase the talents of teachers and students, cultivate students’ entrepreneurial spirit, as well as strengthen the connection and cooperation between the school, alumni, and the Miri community—creating an annual event that integrates education, innovation, culture, and community inclusiveness.

This year’s carnival features a variety of programs, including 18 Innovation Showcase exhibitions, gathering multiple schools from Miri to display creative inventions, educational innovations, and research results, demonstrating the outstanding innovation abilities of their teachers and students.

The event has also invited several artists to perform, including Menoah Hudson, Abiyy Anshary (Miri Star of the Future), and Dewi, who will bring wonderful performances to the on-site audience.

On the sports side, there will be an interschool handball competition (with 8 schools participating), sepak takraw tournament (6 schools participating), and a water rocket competition (8 schools participating). Additionally, there will be a karaoke contest and a bridal fashion modeling competition, adding a lively atmosphere to the carnival.

The site will also feature 18 exhibition booths from government agencies and enterprises, showcasing various public services, products, and the latest information to allow the public to learn more about each unit's services.

Additionally, there will be 30 entrepreneurship bazaar stalls at the carnival, jointly run by students, alumni, and local entrepreneurs, selling all kinds of food, beverages, handicrafts, and specialty goods. While visiting the exhibition, the public can also enjoy great food and support youth entrepreneurship.

On the day, there will also be a carnival treasure hunt and a variety of fun contests, giving participants a chance to win generous prizes and enhance the excitement of the event.

Principal Mr. Hwang Chin Kuei stated that this year’s carnival is the result of close collaboration between the school, Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Parent Support Group (KSIB), Parent, Community and Private Institution Participation Committee (PIBKS), and the SMK Baru Cooperative. It fully demonstrates the commitment and achievements of the school and community in advancing education together.
