On July 6, a hit-and-run traffic accident resulting in two deaths occurred in Udon Thani, northeastern Thailand. Local police used OpenAI's ChatGPT to assist in the investigation, ultimately succeeding in apprehending the suspect involved.
According to the Bangkok Post, the driver involved in the fatal crash immediately fled the scene by car.
Law enforcement authorities launched an investigation, collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and recording statements from nearby witnesses.
In addition, investigators discovered some car parts at the scene of the incident. After repeated verification, they confirmed that these parts belonged to the vehicle involved in the accident.
Investigators used ChatGPT to analyze photos of the car parts and quickly determined that the part was the front bumper of a Toyota, listing the serial number 52113-0K140. The analysis ultimately identified the part as belonging to a Toyota Hilux Vigo Champ.
With this lead, investigators were able to further narrow the scope of their investigation and ultimately succeeded in locating and arresting the driver involved.
