The fire at Hong Kong’s Hong Fu Court community resulted in major casualties. Wang Shishi, wife of Hong Kong action superstar Donnie Yen, pointed out that the rapid spread of the blaze was due to the use of Chinese-made mesh, sparking backlash from Chinese netizens. She apologized last night on Weibo.
Wang Shishi stated on her IG Stories that the Hong Kong fire was not caused by bamboo scaffolding. The reason it spread so quickly was because the contractor used flammable protective mesh and foam sealant from China that did not meet regulations, asking everyone not to blame bamboo scaffolding for the spread.
Her post triggered dissatisfaction among Chinese netizens. Last night, Wang Shishi posted an apology on Weibo, saying she had deleted the original post and only intended to discuss the issue of scaffolding and protective mesh, but failed to notice the improper wording of the original author. "I am truly sorry for this." She expressed she would be more careful with future information sharing: “What is most important now is that all our Chinese compatriots unite to help the victims in disaster areas quickly settle down and rebuild their lives.”#
