Maki Otsuki Forced Off Stage in Shanghai as Power Cut During Concert, Audience Shocked

China is dissatisfied with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks on “If something happens to Taiwan,” and has launched large-scale boycotts against Japan, including abruptly canceling Japanese diva Ayumi Hamasaki’s Shanghai concert. But perhaps the most outrageous incident was experienced by Japanese singer Maki Otsuki, who was in the middle of her performance when the power was cut and she was told to leave the stage.

Two staff members immediately rushed on stage, explaining the situation while taking the microphone from her hand and asking her to leave immediately. Otsuki was left wide-mouthed in disbelief, but could only comply and walk off the stage.

A broadcast then announced that the performance had ended, leaving the audience dumbfounded: “It’s just stopped directly? Damn, what the hell?” “This is outrageous and rude.” Chinese netizens commented that Maki Otsuki might be the last Japanese voice left in China.

Late last night, Otsuki reposted her agency’s statement via Instagram stories, stating that the November 28 performance had to end early due to “force majeure.” The originally scheduled concert for November 29 was also canceled for the same reason. “We deeply apologize to all fans who were looking forward to Maki Otsuki’s performance.”
