Peninsula Air Pollution Continues to Improve; Central and Southern Malaysia Gradually Escape Haze

(Kuala Lumpur, 28th) The haze that has shrouded our country for several days continues to improve on the peninsula. The air pollution index in central and southern Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, has dropped to a “moderate” level. As of Monday (July 28) morning, only Mukah in Sarawak, East Malaysia, remains at an “unhealthy” level of 154.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) data at 10 a.m. on Monday (28th), Mukah’s air pollution index was still at 154. However, Bintulu (75) and Sibu (62) both remained at moderate levels.
In addition, there were 60 locations nationwide at a moderate air pollution level, while 7 regions had already reached a good level.
On the peninsula, compared with 97 recorded late Sunday (27th), Kuala Lumpur Cheras’ index fell to 92 on Monday (28th) morning. Meanwhile, Johan Setia in Selangor increased by 3 points to 83, while Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam each remained at 72.
As for the northern states, Sungai Petani in Kedah recorded an air pollution index of 67 on Monday (28th), while Mainland Penang had 59, close to a good level.
Based on the system’s official website classification, an index between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
