(Kuala Lumpur, 28th) The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, presented the letter of appointment to Datuk Wong Ahmad Farid as Chief Justice of the Federal Court at the National Palace on Monday (July 28).
62-year-old Wong Ahmad Farid also took the oath of office during the Chief Justice's appointment ceremony.
He was previously a Court of Appeal judge. On Monday (July 28), he also received his letter of appointment as a Federal Court judge.
Those present at the ceremony included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Dr. and Datuk Seri Fadillah, as well as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina.
The King also presented letters of appointment to Datuk Abu Bakar as President of the Court of Appeal, Datuk Aziza as Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as to 8 new Court of Appeal judges and 14 High Court judges.
Wong Ahmad Farid has been appointed as the 17th Chief Justice of the Federal Court, succeeding Tun Tengku Maimun, who retired on July 2.
This appointment was made in accordance with Article 122B(1) of the Federal Constitution, following the recommendation of the Prime Minister and consultation with the Conference of Rulers, and received the King's approval.
63-year-old Abu Bakar fills the vacancy for President of the Court of Appeal left by Tan Sri Abang Iskandar, who retired on July 3. Also 63, Aziza replaces Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli, who retired on July 24, as Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.
