(Kuching, 28th) Sarawak badminton is celebrating exciting news—Genevie Lim and Wafa Shahmina have been selected for the national team, showcasing their progress on the international stage.
The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) has confirmed that both players have been chosen by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and will participate in the Yonex Dutch Junior International 2026 women’s doubles (WD) and mixed doubles (XD), to be held in the Netherlands from February 25 to March 1, 2026, followed by the Yonex German Junior 2026 from March 4 to 8.
All expenses for these tournaments will be covered by BAM, further reflecting the national team’s confidence in the Sarawak duo.
Genevie Lim from Kuching and Wafa from Miri will report to the Malaysia Badminton Academy (ABM) on February 15 to attend centralized training in preparation for the European tournaments.
SBA President Datuk Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar congratulated the two players on their national team selection, stating this is the result of their historic runner-up achievement at the 2026 PETRONAS U21 National Championships, where they finished second to Selangor.
He said, “Their significant progress in competition bodes well for the future of Sarawak badminton, and will also inspire other players to follow their example.”
“This also shows they have great potential for further development. I hope they can further improve their skills under BAM’s systematic and professional training.”

He added, “This will provide them with broader and much-needed international experience, helping them become even better players. SBA will continue to fully support them and help them realize their full potential.”
