Stone hurled at car windscreen, suspect nabbed for mischief

KUCHING: A 52-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly damaging the windscreen of a parked car with a stone at Lorong 3, Jalan Central Timur yesterday (Jul 20).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed receiving a police report lodged by the victim on the 6.20 am incident.

According to the report, the 32-year-old complainant, who was serving as a marshal for a running event, had parked his car by the roadside at the scene of the incident.

“Suddenly, an unidentified man came towards the vehicle, picked up a stone, and threw it at the front windscreen, causing significant damage.

“Following a public tip-off, police managed to locate and arrest the suspect nearby,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage exceeding RM25.

If convicted, the local suspect could face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

Alexson added that investigations are underway to determine the motive and background of the suspect.
