(Myanmar, 12th) — Three individuals who have long been entrenched in northern Myanmar and are suspected of conducting telecom and online fraud against Chinese citizens have been prosecuted in China, with one identified as the primary leader of the criminal group.
According to a report by China Central Television News, after legal review, the Quanzhou People's Procuratorate in Fujian Province has, in accordance with relevant regulations, brought charges against three people who have long been entrenched in Kokang, northern Myanmar, relying on armed forces to carry out rampant telecom and online fraud and other crimes targeting Chinese citizens. The charges—filed with the Intermediate People's Court of Quanzhou, Fujian Province—include suspected crimes of fraud, intentional homicide, organizing others to illegally cross the national (border) frontier, and extortion.
Among them, the primary leader of the criminal group is Wei Huairen (foreign name WAI SAN), while the other two are reported to be key suspects involved in the case.
Wei Huairen was previously arrested in Myanmar. In January last year, Myanmar police handed him over to Chinese public security authorities.
