(Thailand, 12th) In 2019, Wang Nuannuan, who was three months pregnant, was pushed off a 34-meter-high cliff in Thailand by her husband, Yu Xiaodong, while traveling. She was fortunately discovered by tourists and rescued in time. On the 10th, the Qinhuai District People's Court of Nanjing City, China, ruled to grant the divorce between the two, ordering the defendant, Yu Xiaodong, to pay the plaintiff, Wang Nuannuan, divorce damages of 500,000 RMB (about 295,800 ringgit).
The court stated that on September 26, it held a non-public court hearing in accordance with the law. Plaintiff Wang Nuannuan and her entrusted litigation agent, as well as the defendant Yu Xiaodong’s litigation agent, attended the litigation. As the defendant Yu Xiaodong is serving his sentence abroad (in Thailand), he participated in the proceedings via online video.
On June 9, 2019, Wang Nuannuan from Jiangsu, who was pregnant at the time, was traveling in Thailand's Ubon Ratchathani National Park with her husband, Yu Xiaodong, when her husband pushed her off a 34-meter-high cliff. During the fall, Wang Nuannuan was blocked by a tree on the cliffside, and was later found by tourists on a path after falling off the cliff and taken to the hospital.
After the incident, Wang Nuannuan stated that it was her husband Yu Xiaodong who personally pushed her off the cliff. Yu Xiaodong was suspected of attempting to murder his wife for insurance money and was arrested by Thai police. It is reported that the two got married in July 2017, and Yu Xiaodong was in debt from gambling in China.
After multiple trials, in June 2023, the Thai court handed down a final (third instance) judgment, sentencing Yu Xiaodong to 33 years and 4 months in prison. In September of the same year, Wang Nuannuan officially filed for divorce.
In June last year, Wang Nuannuan shared the happy news of becoming a mother again on social media. She stated that she became pregnant again through artificial insemination, but would not disclose the source of the sperm.
