The Royal Thai Navy has taken action to expel Cambodian troops from the border area in Trat Province.
The Thai Navy stated that aerial images showed Cambodian troops had established a new base inside Thai territory near Ban Nong Ri Village, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province, after which the Thai Navy launched a military operation.
On the 9th, Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Parat said that after previously withdrawing, Cambodian troops had returned to the area and rebuilt their positions. They deployed special forces, snipers, and multiple rocket launchers, dug trenches, set up heavy weapons, and used drones to monitor Thai military positions.
The Thai Navy pointed out that prior attempts were made to resolve the situation through diplomatic and military channels, including warnings and negotiations at various levels, but Cambodia did not withdraw its troops and instead strengthened its military deployments.
The Thai Navy stated that the operation aimed, in accordance with the right of self-defense under international law, to expel Cambodian troops from Thai sovereign territory, and that force would be used if necessary and appropriate to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
