(Jakarta, 22nd) Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI) Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is making efforts to propel Jakarta into the ranks of the global top 50 cities.
Pramono made this statement while presiding over the flag-raising ceremony for Jakarta’s 498th anniversary celebration at the National Monument (Monas). The celebration was held on Sunday morning, June 22.
The Jakarta Special Capital Region Government has established its 2025-2029 development vision, aiming to make Jakarta a globalized city and a center of sustainable economic competitiveness, bringing prosperity to all citizens.
“This is a comprehensive and measurable guiding vision, which at the same time does not neglect Jakarta’s culture and its own unique characteristics,” Pramono said.
He emphasized that culture is not only a distinctive symbol of Jakarta, but also an important attraction for showcasing Indonesia’s image to the world.
“The spirit of unity and cooperation, inclusiveness, tolerance, and integration are the key values and drivers for Jakarta to grow into a sustainable global city,” he said.
As a reflection of this commitment, Pramono has initiated a number of cultural preservation measures, including the revitalization of the Blok M area.
“Through the 'Blok M, Jakarta’s ASEAN Image' project, we are pushing for the revitalization and repositioning of the Blok M terminal, turning it into a space that combines shopping, entertainment, cultural, and creative collaboration functions,” he said.
In addition, Pramono has launched a series of “Towards Jakarta’s 500th Anniversary” events to reactivate historical sites such as Jakarta’s Old Town as platforms for cultural expression.
“Implementing the 'Betawi Rising, Cultural Jakarta' project, by promoting and developing the Betawi cultural ecosystem, as well as launching the Jakarta 'Tourist Pass', we are highlighting Betawi themes and symbols throughout Jakarta to boost tourism,” he said.
The 498th Jakarta City Celebration kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony at 7:30am at the west side of the National Monument square, followed by a plenary provincial assembly at 10:00am.
At 4:00pm, a dinner reception was held, with ambassadors from multiple countries invited to participate.
The highlight of the celebration ended with a special entertainment performance at Banteng Square, featuring renowned artists such as Wali Band, JKT 48, Andien, Diskoria, Sandy Sandhoro, and others.
In addition, entertainment performances will also be held simultaneously in Jakarta’s Old Town and various other locations.
