The Taipei 101 New Year’s fireworks have always been a benchmark event in Taiwan, and this year, anticipation was heightened in advance as Xiao S lent her voice as the narrator for the promotional video. On the 3rd, Taipei 101 Chairwoman Chia Yung-chieh shared the simulated fireworks footage and behind-the-scenes recording on Instagram, revealing that Xiao S repeatedly broke down in tears and cried during the recording session, which made her feel deeply sympathetic. This was Xiao S’s first time taking on a New Year’s Eve–related project since the loss of her sister Big S in February this year, making the experience both heavy and especially meaningful for her.
Chia Yung-chieh explained that the promotional video features a montage of fireworks displays from the past 20 years, with each clip carrying shared New Year’s memories for the people of Taiwan. Xiao S’s narration also carries a particularly profound emotion. Watching the 101 fireworks on New Year’s Eve has always been an important family tradition for Xiao S, “Counting down together, looking up, screaming, hugging as we welcome the New Year—it’s a loving ritual that belongs to her family, and it’s also a cherished memory for all of Taiwan.”
But this year, one most important person is missing. However, Xiao S shared that she seemed to hear her sister Big S, now in heaven, softly telling her: 'We should still watch the fireworks together; we’ll still welcome the New Year together like always.' The words, filled with laughter, mischief, and the lifelong bond and promise of sisters, brought a wave of emotion to all present at the recording.
