(Brisbane, 28th) At the recently concluded Oceania International Wushu Championships in Brisbane, Australia, the Brunei Wushu Team delivered an outstanding performance. Amidst fierce competition from athletes representing 14 countries, the team ultimately secured 7 gold medals and 6 silver medals, finishing fourth overall in the medal tally and earning honor for the nation.
On the final day of the competition, both the junior and youth groups frequently took the podium, showcasing numerous highlights:
· Junior Girls’ Taijijian: Brunei's young athlete Megan clinched the gold medal with a score of 8.915; the silver went to a New Zealand athlete and the bronze to an Indian athlete.
· Youth Girls’ Taijijian: Brunei's Chua Yi Chin took gold with a score of 8.74, while teammate Chua You Qin secured silver with 8.705, allowing Brunei to claim both the gold and silver medals.
· Junior Boys’ Weapons: Brunei's Yu Ming Yi won the gold medal with a score of 8.93.
· Youth Boys’ Weapons: Brunei’s Varley earned the silver medal with a score of 9.705; gold went to a Chinese athlete and bronze to a Malaysian athlete.
· Senior Men’s Nan Gun: Brunei's Lee Han claimed gold with a score of 9.725; the silver and bronze went to athletes from Singapore and Malaysia, respectively.
· Senior Women’s Taijijian: Brunei's Basma delivered a smooth and flowing performance, earning 9.73 points and taking gold; both silver and bronze went to athletes from Malaysia.
The Brunei Wushu team’s coach expressed that the athletes fully demonstrated their training level on the field, strictly adhered to competition discipline, and earned praise from the event organizers. Head coach Li Hui and women’s coach Zhao Chunjie were highly satisfied with the athletes’ performances and felt deeply proud of their achievements.
